- As a Christmas meeting tradition, we started off with a sumptuous pot-luck lunch prepared by everyone in attendance. There were different choices of hot food, salads, cheese and meat platter, and last but not least, mouth-watering desserts.
- The November meeting organizing group decided to celebrate the holiday with a penguin themed meeting. Our resident “penguin” experts Robert and Ann did a great job in decorating our meeting area with various sizes and shapes of penguins. They even had a mini Christmas tree full of Department 56 made penguin hanging ornaments. Then, Robert challenged everyone with a tough quiz on penguins. But apparently, if we had studied the National Geographic magazine beforehand, Robert claimed that the quiz should have been a breeze. :{
- Due to the theme of our meeting, the November group added a small twist to our Christmas table center-piece display contest by asking participants to incorporate one or more penguins within their displays. Our club members responded with ease to this challenge by showing off their talents in creating imaginative displays. Our winner of the contest was Nicole who did a wonderful display within a showcase (top left). Marlene’s entry (bottom left) was a close second with a beautiful assortment of Snowbabies figurines in a wreath.
- Our event-packed meeting also included a silent auction of items generously donated by club members. There were household items, collectible items, Christmas decorations, etc. All proceeds from this event would be donated to a charitable organization during this holiday season as a way for our club to give back to our local community. When all the biddings were completed and monies were counted, our club collected a nice sum of $430 for our charity. Our big thanks to Judy who organized and ran this auction event flawlessly!
