2017 March meeting highlights

  1. Annual General Meeting
    • Our AGM took place as usual during our March meeting where we reviewed our financial and membership reports for the past year and our plan for the coming year
    • in the meeting, there was also an election for 4 executive positions: Secretary, Membership, Program Planning and NCC Representative – the positions were eventually acclaimed by incumbents: Ruth T., Peggy C., Gail H. and Rick J. respectively
    • the club thanked these 4 members for their continued support

  2. History of St. Patrick’s Day and its traditions
    • the theme of the March meeting was St. Patrick’s Day and everyone was encourage to wear something green
    • although St. Patrick’s Day was already few days in the past, the organizing group felt that this special day should be celebrated and started the meeting with some interesting historical facts on St. Patrick’s Day and its traditions

  3. Trees, trees and more trees
    • Jim and Barry did a great presentation on how to add trees to your display: either “trees” you can find in their natural state (i.e. branches from real trees) or “trees” that can be made easily with some readily available and inexpensive material

  4. Pillars, platforms and some “magic” glue
    • Continuing with display ideas, Cherie did a show-and-tell on how to make a platform for a display using some “pillar-looking” containers and showed a type of “tacky” glue that actually worked better than tacky wax because the glue could be taken off easily after application without any messy residueaIMG_7914

  5. Irish Trivia
    • Norm ended the meeting with some more interesting trivia about Irish and its traditions

  6. Displays with a theme of Transportation
    • the March group invited members to create displays containing at least 1 item associated with a mode of transportation, such as a train, an automobile, a witch on a broom, etc.
    • as usual, our members responded enthusiastically with several wonderful displays
