- First off, our President Steve reminded everyone that Department 56 is inviting all clubs to nominate a member for “Collector of the Year”. Nominations should be put forward at the January meeting so that the successful member can be chosen and his/her name forwarded well in advance of the May 1, 2009 deadline. The collector of the year will be announced at the Region 8 Roundup in San Antonio, Texas in August 2009.
. - We also had the Halloween display contest where our members “flexed their muscles” to showcase their talent in building creative displays.
- Then, we had a special guest, Tanya Olson, from our associate member, Royal City Nursery, showing us how to decorate fall table displays with simple but elegant ideas. She highlighted how regular household items such as fabrics, fruit and garden greenery can be arranged in differing heights, textures etc. to create dramatic effects at minimal cost.
