The theme of the meeting was the celebration of the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens.
- a “best hat” competition
- EVERYONE was encouraged to wear a celebratory hat and dress in period costume and boy, did everyone come prepared!
- As evident from the photographs below that hats are always in style and everyone loves to dress up for the occasion! :)
- an English High Tea
- the organizing committee hosted a fantastic afternoon tea for members in attendance: a cake in honour of Charles Dickens’ birthday, delicious finger food and sandwiches, gleaming silverware, teapots and sugar bowl, 2 lovely ladies serving piping hot tea in fancy bone china tea cups, a gentleman putting whipped cream on sumptuous desserts – what a great idea!

- our club was lucky to have Ian Godwin, an experienced actor who enjoys classic literature, to perform a few readings of Dickens’ novels, such as A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol
- he even appeared in character with a traditional costume and gave a brief biography of Charles Dickens
