  1. Show and Tell
    • Cherie found a popular musical picture frame with a Halloween theme at a Cracker Barrel store in the US.   Apparently, this item sold out quickly when it was in stock.
    • Barry and Martha talked about a product called Shaper Sheet.  It is a sheet of strong and pliable material that can hold its form without any understructure.  They showed how simple it was to use a sheet to model all types of terrain in a village display.

  2. Dolls, Trains and More
    • on a recent visit to California, Barry, Martha, Jim and Lynda came across a unique store in Novato (near San Francisco) called “Dollhouses, Trains and More”.  Here is their experience at the store:
      • Jim and Barry wanted a quick stop to check out the model train section of the store but Martha and Lynda saw a Christmas tree display by the entrance, so they all decided to give the store a quick look over.
      • BIG MISTAKE … it turned out to be the biggest commercial display of Department 56, Lemax and others they had ever seen, even larger than the displays in Bronner’s Christmas store in Frankenmuth, Michigan!
      • There were 2 rows of 3 display pods, each about 5 foot square.  Behind that was a wall display of Department 56 pieces with individual light switches you could turn on or off.  Next to the display pods was a 20 foot by 8 foot model train layout with 3 different scaled trains.
      • Walking around with a dazed look on their faces, they wandered into the Halloween display room.  A motion sensor brought everything to life.  There was a huge Department 56 display that had to be about 10 feet long and 8 feet deep and four other smaller setups around the room (a couple of which were dedicated to Lemax products).
      • Speaking to one sales associate, they learned that the owner’s main interest was in, as the name of the store indicated, dollhouses and model trains.  When you think of it, it makes perfect sense to include Department 56 and Lemax products as they make great miniature displays!
      • As far as Barry, Martha, Jim and Lynda concern, it was a phenomenal store ... they were really glad to have discovered this little gem!
