- Darlene & John’s celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 10th. At the meeting, they shared with club members photographs of their lives and a cake to commemorate the special occasion
- The January meeting organizing team came up a unique group exercise. Everyone at the meeting was split into groups and each group was assigned a Department 56 village. The exercise was for each group to write a short story related to the particular village they had been assigned. The organizing team brought in sample pieces of each village as a means of inspiration. The story could be of any genre: drama, comedy, sci-fi, mystery, etc. But everyone was reminded that the story should have a beginning which introduced characters, time and/or location settings, an event initiating middle section and a climactic ending with a satisfying resolution. The twist for this activity is that each story must have a twist in its plot!
- every one was a bit hesitant at the start of the activity because it seemed difficult to compose a short story with a logical plot in such a short time
- but as soon as everyone put on their thinking hats, the creative juices started to flow and every group was able to finish a story within the given time while having fun with the entire writing process
- the short story from each group will be published in our upcoming newsletters – so stay tuned for our collaborative and imaginative story-telling of Department 56 villages!
